As the year draws to a close, the NECINA team thanks for your continued engagement. Let's revisit the standout moments from the 2023 NECINA events.

‘AI & ME’ Conference  - Navigating the Future Together!

During the conference, collaborating industry experts and higher education professors delve into diverse AI topics through keynotes and panel discussions.

Here are some key highlights from a few of our speakers.Click HERE, to review more conference topics and videos.

From Dr. Andrew Ng, Founder of DeepLearning.AI, Founder & CEO of Landing AI, Co-Founder of Coursera and an Adjunct Professor at Stanford University

The opening fireside chat between Dr. Andrew Ng and Mr. Cheng Wu delved deeply into Generative AI. They discussed its evolution, impact, applications, and concerns. Also covered the rise of large language models (LLM) like GPT-3.5, the game-changing aspects of these models, and their differences from previous AI iterations.

"One of the hard things to understand about AI is that it's a general-purpose technology, like electricity."

"The scale matters. The authors of the Transformer paper did a really good job making tons of little design decisions that collectively led to a very scalable algorithm."

From Prof Hsiang-Tsung Kung, William H. Gates Professor of Computer Science and Electrical Engineering at Harvard University

“Generative AI won't be replaced by random forests. Random forests serve as a solution for specific problems rather than a generalized solution applicable to all scenarios.”

From Dr. Steve Swann, Chief Scientific Officer at Tandem AI

Dr. Steve delved into AI's significant impact on drug discovery, emphasizing the hurdles within the field: substantial expenses, sluggish advancement, and a notable 90% failure rate, particularly in initial trials. He championed the ongoing investigation of AI's capabilities in drug discovery, expressing confidence in its potential to transform the field despite the current challenges.

"Artificial intelligence can't make chemistry go faster, but it can help you decide which direction to go."

"We can use computers to predict what a drug candidate might look like before we actually go make it and test it. Drug Discovery has a lot to prove in the realm of the use of artificial intelligence."

Networking Panel Discussion: Elevate Your Professional Connections

This gathering provided a relaxed atmosphere for our panelists, students, and young professionals to connect.

A senior business major student recounted an inspiring story: "My boss hired me at a social networking event." Naturally, everyone hoped to be as fortunate as the student who got hired. However, many of us have or had to go through similar challenges.

"I struggle to join conversations when people discuss sports."

"I aimed to be hired by one of the top-tier companies on my list."

"How do I swiftly integrate into a new remote-working team?"

The key takeaway? Here are some of them: be your authentic self, build friendship, embrace discomfort, persistently pursue opportunities, set achievable short-term goals, engage in activities that interest you for knowledge, and use that knowledge to spark conversations with others, participate in community events or volunteer your time, offer help and foster connections with others.
